ABCD-J's work on trustworthy machine learning is closely connected to ethical research on medical AI at Forschungszentrum Jülich, a link that is a focus of the Neuroethics and Ethics in AI group and its Phil.Tech.Talks lecture series.

As machine learning and AI become increasingly central to neuroimaging and medical research, scientifically developed approaches are not sufficient.
Predictive models and medical AI systems must also be developed and applied in ways that are *ethically responsible*, *socially acceptable*, and *legally sound*.
Within ABCD-J, activities around [robust and bias-free machine learning]({{< relref path="../../topics/robustml" lang="en" >}}) and development of software such as [julearn]({{< relref path="../../software/julearn" lang="en" >}}) emphasize transparent, reproducible, and rigorous workflows to contribute to the rsesponsible use of AI in neuroimaging and clinical research.
Ethical considerations are also embedded in the long-term vision of the ABCD-J platform, in that research infrastructure that connects researchers and clinical partners can only succeed if principles such as self-determination, protection against discrimination, and stakeholder integration are considered from the outset.
At [Forschungszentrum Jülich]({{< relref path="../../sites/fzj" lang="en" >}}), the [Neuroethics and Ethics in AI group](https://www.fz-juelich.de/en/inm/inm-7/research-groups/neuroethics-and-ethics-in-ai) (INM-7) combines philosophical and empirical methods to address these challenges in neuroscientific research and the development and application of new technologies.
Its [Phil.Tech.Talks](https://philtechtalks.netlify.app/) lecture series invites experts at the intersection of philosophy, ethics, neuroscience, and technology to discuss fundamental and practical aspects of AI in brain research and medicine.
