When adding a new identifier to a Person, one is presented with a choice which includes
IssuedIdentifierandORCID. Both of them have "creator", "notation", and "schema agency" properties, which are presented in a different order (forIssuedIdentifier, creator is hidden behind the "All fields" toggle).Given that ORCID is a special case of an issued identifier, where the issuer is known I think the fields for "creator" and "schema agency" should be pre-populated, should not be available at all, or at least should be hidden. Otherwise, it feels like there is need to enter the obvious, and we may end up with different values being used for these fields (e.g. one could choose to use GRID instead of ROR, one could spell out ORCID or not).
It seems that if these are not filled in, the record gets populated with default values by the system (Open Researcher and Contributor ID, ror:04fa4r544), which is nice.
After the switch to Research Information, the
IssuedIdentifierwas retired but I think the issue still applies - there is no more "schema agency" but the "creator" still has to be manually selected. That being said, the editor now encourages selecting from existing records which makes it easier to select "Orcid" (the org) as long as it is in the pool, which makes it easier and less ambiguous.
